VERGROTENDE EN OVERTREFFENDE TRAP
 

Vergelijkingen bij bijvoeglijke naamwoorden

 
ER in de vergrotende trap en EST in de overtreffende trap als:
 
1          Bijvoeglijk naamwoord (in de uitspraak) uit 1 lettergreep bestaat.
                        cheap -           cheaper         -           cheapest
                        thin     -           thinner           -           thinnest (medeklinker verdubbelt)
 
2          Bijvoeglijke naamwoord (in de uitspraak) uit 2 lettergrepen bestaat die eindigt op LE ER OW Y
                  clever             -cleverer        -           cleverest
                  simple                        -simpler         -           simplest (alleen r, st toevoegen)

 

MORE in de vergrotende trap en MOST in de overtreffende trap bij:
 
1          alle andere bijvoeglijke naamwoorden van 2 of meer lettergrepen
                        famous          -           more famous            -most famous                      
                        interesting     -           more interesting      -most interesting

Vergelijkingen kun je maken met:
 
A. as ................ as    =          even/ net zo lang als    Nigel is as tall as Bruce.         
Nu is alles gelijkwaardig, dus GEEN vergrotende of overtreffende trap è dus GEEN ER, EST, MORE, MOST
 
 
B. The ………………..        =          de (het)  beste    She is the best student in class.
Nu vraag je naar de OVERTREFFENDE TRAP dus EST of MOST
 
 
C. .................... than =          langer dan        James is taller than Bruce.
Nu vraag je naar een VERGROTENDE trap dus ER of MORE
